How to Get the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength can be found in the Archives at the House of Hope. If you’ve rejected the deal offered by Raphael, your main goal in breaking into his house is to find and successfully steal the Orphic Hammer. The Hammer will be in the same room as the Amulet of Greater Health and the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength. Each piece will be in a different display area in a different part of the room.

Be aware that taking the Hammer will trigger alarms and send Raphael on his way back to the House of Hope for a confrontation. When you’re ready, you’ll want to grab all three pieces of gear at the same time!

Other Notable Loot in the House of Hope:

The Archives

When you’re done exploring the House of Hope and ready to finally steal the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength, it’s best to unlock your party members from the group. The Archivist has no problem with any of you viewing the artifacts, so find all three (they’re on full display and should be easy to spot). The Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength specifically is on the pedestal to the right or northern corner, of the room. I recommend placing one party member in front of each one.

When everyone is in place, click between characters and steal each of the three items one by one. You might think to use Invisibility potions or spells here to conceal your intentions like I did, but they really don’t do you any good. Taking the items appears to trigger something on the pedestals and your character will immediately become visible again, so there is really no need to bother with sneaking around.

Once you’ve stolen all three artifacts, group your team back up and get ready for a fight. Strangely, the Archivist and his minions do not appear to attack you. However, as you open the doors to head back out of the Archives you’ll find yourself under attack. It’s mostly the smaller fry so far – Raphael is on his way, but his fight won’t trigger until you attempt to exit the House via the portal. However, if you agreed to help Hope out when you first met her upon arrival, it is highly recommended that you first head straight down the long passageway to her cell in order to break her out now.

How to Use the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength in BG3

All you need to do to use the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength is to equip them into your glove slot to get your Strength ability score to 23 and get a bonus +1 to Strength Saving Throws. Having a score of 23 in strength not only grants your character a +6 ability score modifier for all related rolls but also increases that character’s jump distance, carrying capacity, and throw weight. Remember that the gauntlets only set your Strength to 23, so if your Strength score is already higher they will only give you the +1 Strength saving throw bonus.

Tips and Tricks of the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength in BG3

The most obvious use for the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength is to increase the strength of front-line warrior characters, such as Barbarians, Fighters, and Paladins. This increases their damage and other strength-related feats, but does have a ceiling of 23. If a character gets beyond a strength of 23 by any other means, the gauntlets won’t be an effective item for them any longer.

Another use of the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength is to temporarily increase the strength of an other wise weaker character that may need strength for a specific task they are doing. This can be used to allow a character to do things such as jump further, make a saving throw or check, or even simply carry more weight temporarily.
